As I reflect on the topic of emotions so many things comes to mind, but what sticks out the most is the management and control of them. It can become very challenging to not allow your emotions control and rule your life. This emotions thing has nothing to do with gender but everything to do with a real internal battle. You know the famous saying “Emotional Rollercoaster” describing the up and down stages of our emotions.  Have you been on a emotional rollercoaster lately?  There is much to say about the topic of emotions. It’s the headlining topic of most TV shows, books, social media, and much more. People are trying to figure this thing out. So there is some research that says emotions:

• Anger
• Fear
• Surprise
• Disgust
• Happiness
• Sadness

I believe that this is a good foundation but there are so many more emotions that we as humans experience in our lifetime. The funny thing is we could also experience these 6 basic emotions multiplied by 6 on a daily basis. Yes the struggle and internal war of emotions is something powerful people. Now let’s take a deeper, introspective look into our lives for a moment. Are your emotions controlling your life? Do you make decisions based off your feelings and emotions?

Emotions can be defined as “a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others”.

Emotions are behind everything and actually guide our choices more than we would expect. How many times have you done something because of how it made you “feel”? Everyone’s hand should be raised! (LOL) As a believer, God wants us to really look to him and his Holy Spirit on the inside of us for guidance. God wants us to be able to check our emotions and follow the leading of His Spirit in us! Now this is a PROCESS because we are so accustomed to living life through our emotions.

The correct balance of acknowledgement, expression, and control will lead us to so much freedom.  Our negative emotions can lead us to some places in our mind that God never intended for us to be.  It’s God intention for us to be FREE and stay in that place with him. If not careful, we can end up in bondage and entangled just because of our emotions.

Guess what?!! Jesus Christ can identify with EVERY single emotion! Yes, he is fully connected to every human experience and also fully God with the power to free us from any bondage.

Hebrews 12:14-16 in the message bible says:

“Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.”

1 Peter 5:7 in the Amplified bible says:

“Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”

Another amazing scripture and truth!  Let’s really cast this stuff and walk in freedom. So let’s do an emotional check up that can literally change our lives. Ask the hard questions and take a deeper look into your life. If you find anything that you need to work on that is GREAT. It’s great because there is room for God to come in and really do the work so you can live by the spirit and have control over your emotions. You got this!
